Frequently asked questions

Into the top or the bottom of the wave?

Into the bottom - where the sheet rests on the batten. Driven into the top, the screw does not pull the sheet down, the washer stays uncompressed and over time it starts letting water through. You need a screwdriver with smoothly adjustable torque so the washer is not over-compressed.

What is different about PREMIUM screws?

The manufacturer gives them a 30-year warranty - the same as the better coatings. The logic is simple: there is no point putting a 50-year coating on screws that will rust in ten.

Do I have to use the manufacturer’s accessories?

The manufacturer warranty applies when the sheet is fitted with the manufacturer accessories and to the instructions. Cheaper screws with a poorer EPDM washer start letting water through after a few years, and cutting with an angle grinder overheats the coating and voids the warranty entirely. That is why we always suggest ordering the accessories together.

How do I work out how much is needed?

Send us the roof dimensions or a drawing and we will prepare a list with quantities. Screws are usually needed at 6-8 per square metre of slope, but the exact number depends on the roof shape and the amount of flashing.
